I’m late posting this, as our crazy moving experience this past month hasn’t left much time to search out photos.

Wolf, baby Jewel, and Squeaker

On June 18th, we said Goodbye to our Old Lady Cat, Squeaker.

There is some debate about her exact age, but she’s been Wolf’s kitty for a long, long time.

Here’s Day One at home – 1992? 1994?

She was always Papa’s girl…

Lots of cats will sleep on you, but not many cats will let the baby sleep on them!

And Squeaker remained Jewel’s friend for life.

She passed on peacefully, in Wolf’s arms, with the family gathered around.

We will all miss her…

I was delighted when the American Family Association and such folks lifted the boycott against Pepsi.

Not only does this mean we’ve won a victory for family and morality, but it also means we’re again free to drink some of our favorite drinks!

My longstanding preferred caffeine-fix, Mountain Dew, is still made with glop (High Fructose Corn Syrup). Rats.

And then, there was Throwback!

Sure, the vintage cans are cute. But look – it’s made with real sugar!

Since it’s only available for a limited time, I figured I’d better lay in a good supply…

Sadly, today I am forced to post a sequel to my Goodbye, Nicki post, as we bid farewell to brother Charles.

The cats have been growing more and more stir-crazy in the confined space of the RV, and making ever more determined efforts to get out. Tragically, last night Charles succeeded, and got a little more adventure than he bargained for.

If you missed the story of how the four “fur babies” were orphaned, saved from fumigation, and came to invade our home, there’s words and pictures posted from our first days in Florida, in the summer of 2007.

The only thing missing from the original telling of the tale is Wolf coming to the RV with his hand cradled to his chest… And introducing the situation by presenting me with a tiny orange kitten.

Who grew…

And grew…

And grew…

…until one day he discovered he could no longer fit his sizeable backside under his favorite hiding-stool!

Charles was quite a contradiction. He was a huge, “manly” tom cat… But he had a tiny, high-pitched meow, and the timid, jumpy personality to match.

But he still loved his siblings…

The adopted ones, as well as the furry ones.

Goodbye, Charles. We miss you…

So today the kids and I have enjoyed having this dashing young man hanging around with us… Fortunately, we have the option of keeping him around!

And how does my husband feel about this, you may ask?

*giggle*

The story begins a couple of weeks ago, when Wolf signed the paperwork…

…and was duly sworn in to the United States Air Force Reserves.

So, after almost two decades of having a beard and moustache, he made the commitment to shave it off for at least “one weekend a month, and two weeks a year.”

Although he hadn’t had to report for his first weekend yet, we thought Easter Sunday was a good time to try out the clean-shaven look (which, obviously, the kids and I have never seen!).

Jewel was fascinated by the entire process.

And Jewel and R.T. both enjoyed snuggling up to their newly smooth-cheeked Papa!

… So did I, but you get NO PHOTOS of that!

Shaving off the beard certainly took the years right off, didn’t it? If only I could think of a solution that easy for myself!

Number two in the lineup is this little number from our local party store’s costume department.

Never mind my thoughts on the immodest dress and attitude of the young lady. The point here is that this is NOT what we called this when I was a kid!

And finally, there’s this one from the Department of Redundancy Department. It’s the label from a cloth diaper pail liner I recently purchased – check out that first bullet point:

Who would have guessed that the leak-proof construction was there to prevent leaks?!
