To Bed, to Bed!
TwitterMoms is at it again, teaming up with DramaU from St. Eve Kids’ Sleepwear to ask mom bloggers to share their tips.
Today’s topic? Getting your kids to bed – and keeping them there!
My top five tips:
1. Nutritious, filling dinner
2. No junk food in the evening (no sugar, no caffeine, etc.)
3. Familiar, soothing routine (familiartiy calms them naturally, but also cozy family reading time!)
4. Get enough sleep – including naps (paradoxically, too tired kids can’t fall asleep easily, and don’t sleep well)
5. Sharing sleep. My littles nurse to sleep, and snuggle close all night… No worries!
What works for you?

Bribery! =) Not really, but my boys (7 & 9) know that if they are ready for bed on time, then they have time to listen to a chapter from the Chronicles of Narnia. Our local library has audio downloads you “check out” for two weeks at a time. We hit a chapter a night and it works out really well. They’re unabridged audios and the reader is wonderful! I sit in their room, with the lights off, with my laptop and we listen together. Usually they’re so tired by the time it’s over, they don’t notice me walk out. We’ve got one special needs son who deals with insomnia (since 18 mos!) and it’s always been challenging with him, but right now this is working. I think the key is being flexible enough to change something when it’s no longer effective.
