Family Portraits 1598, er, 2008
As I explained (and showed!) in my Family Photos post, we like do something ever year that’s fun, and shows our collective personality a little bit.
I have been going to Renaissance Faires since I was Nick’s age, and Wolf almost as long. By now I’ve been pregnant, nursed, and carried an infant around at Faires all over the country.
Our kids think recreating the Renaissance is a normal part of life. Nick has grown up learning about the period sort of by osmosis… which I guess makes me an unschooler, whether I usually think so or not!
Miss Jewel already thinks it’s perfectly normal to wear a bodice and a snood… Then again, maybe it’s easier with three year-olds. She also thinks it’s perfectly normal to wear a Wonder Woman suit, Papa’s big cowboy boots, and a pair of panties on your head.
But back to the topic at hand: Our 2008 Family Portrait Session!
Much to the amusement of the somewhat blue-collar and citified crowd at our local mall, we put on our full regalia and trooped into the local Sears Portrait Studio.
Here’s the whole troupe (as always, click the photo if you’d like to see it bigger):

Then the kids…

…and the parents!

Then we did some extra-special breakouts.
Miss Jewel, with a button reading “My Father is Heavily Armed,” holding a two-handed sword that’s as tall as she is:

And my favorite photo of the year – Ye Olde Bad Boys!

I love the pictures. I came across your site through the Awkward Family Photos site and have been looking around here for a couple of hours probably.
I was homeschooled (though not with riding around in an RV) from 4th grade through highschool. And from 10th grade on I believe it was, I used SonLight and my mom is still a SonLight representative.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I have loved looking through your site and reading about your family and everything. I’m so glad that I stumbled across the picture and your response with a link to your page.

My friend posted a picture from Ackward Family Photos as a link on her Facebook account. I laughed hardest when I saw that every comment I got through stated something positive about your family photo, while several comments stated something to the effect of “at least they aren’t wearing matching denim” which perfectly described their most recent family photo. Kudos to yours for having fun, being confident enough to be “different” and having something that your family can do together!
