Life on the Road

Let me begin at the beginning:

The Miami Dolphins had a Fight Song for a long, long time.

This year, they recorded a new version of the song, with a Rap artist. The crowd HATED it, and Boo’d every time it was played. Apparently Miami football fans are not “hip” enough (yay!), and felt this take on “their song” was too juvenile.

So they decided to do it over, differently.

The Coral Reef Barracuda Marching Band (and the bands from three other local high schools) were selected to perform it!

They went up to the Dolphins’ practice stadium to record it on Wednesday the 16th, under the production of Emilio Estefan. No word yet if Gloria Estefan will be involved in the song, but the couple did buy an interest in the team this summer.

And…

They will be performing the new fight song during the Pre-Game festivities for the Dolphins’ home opener against the Colts next Monday (9/21) on Monday Night Football!

Be sure to tune in, and see if you can see him!

Hopfully, from these pictures, you’ll at least be able to recognize their band’s uniforms out of the mixed group.

P.S. As you probably know, we don’t have TV service. Can someone *PLEASE* record it for us??

Yes, last week was Marching Band Camp! And we’re all breathing a big sigh of relief that it’s over.

Nick was there every day from 8 am to 6 pm, spending a lot of time “enjoying” the lovely weather here. Typical day last week my Weather Channel desktop application told me it was “92, feels like 104″. Ack!

They will be performing tomorrow at a big “start of school” festival the district is holding, so it’s a good thing they are getting a handle on things!

We’ve started a “Chip-In” campaign to make it easier for friends, family and any other mysterious allies to help support Nick’s musical endeavors.

We thank you sincerely for your help. Participating in Marching Band is a wonderful experience for Nick, and one which will hopefully lead to a college scholarship. But boy is it expensive!

You can buy, renew, or extend your subscrition to you favorite magazine online, and 40% of the cost goes to the band!  (They split the profits 50/50 between general band expenses, and secifically allocated to the student’s Fair Share contribution).

As you may recall, Nick is now a proud member of the Coral Reef senior High School Barracuda Marching Band.  Cute uniforms:

They had their first marching performance at the football team’s first (pre-season) game last Saturday night.  The football team won against American, and the band was terrific!

I am *so* proud of Nick – a lot of time and effort goes into something like this, and it shows!

Well, it’s official:  band costs a fortune.  On top of the new clarinet we bought and the ongoing private lessons, there’s the marching season gear, the concert season apparel, AND Nick has to pay hundreds of dollars towards his “fair share” of the band’s expenses – competition fees, transportation, dry cleaning the parade uniforms, guest teachers, etc.  Yikes!

The school year hasn’t even started yet, and we’re already behind the curve on fundraising – so I’m posting this appeal for help.

We have two main avenues open right now:

1.  “Sponsor” Nick by making a direct donation.

• Your check is made payable to the band program
• Your contribution is tax-deductible
• Nick receives credit for 100% of the amount of your dontation

This program is set to end on Friday, August 8th.

2.  Tupperware Fundraising!

View the available products via the Tupperware Fundraiser Catalog online – some are unique items not available through the regular catalog! 

Then just email me [tiffany (at) tiffanyblitz (dot) com] with the item numbers, quantities, shipping address, and payment information.  Or you can send a written order (there’s an order form in the catalog that you can print out) and a check or other payment info.

If you’d really like to see the catalog in person, just email me your address and we’ll send one out.  Of course we’d also be deeply grateful if you’d ask around your office, church, or friends and family, too… 

• Your payment is to Tupperware, so it is not tax deductible

• Nick receives credit for approximately 50% of your purchase
