Working in My P.J.s

Yesterday I had the entertaining thought that it was after 10 am, I was having an incredibly productive day, and I was sipping a cup of Chai in my jammies - at the beach, no less.  How many jobs can offer you that?

This morning brought a similar revelation.  I’ve been getting up around 5 am, since my body seems to be stuck on Central Time after so long in Mississippi.  So as I sat here, once again with Chai and pajamas, I watched the folks driving out of the park in their fancy clothes…  So even though they were parked here on the beach in their RV, they were getting up well before the crack of dawn every day and commuting back into the Rat Race.  Wow.

When I was in my teens and 20’s, my parents probably thought I was just lazy, since I went to some great lengths to find ways to support myself other than getting a 9 to 5 JOB (have you heard the acronym “Journey Of the Broke”?).  I realize in hindsight that I was just intrinsically motivated to be self-employed and in charge of my own destiny.

So it’s the first of the month…  Sending out the monthly newsletter to our “Team Blitz,” sending out follow-up postcards to new members, and generally taking care of the details.

I’ve also signed up to be a Tupperware consultant, since I love their space-saving storage ideas for the RV.  Of course I got a forwarding domain set up for my personal Tupperware Blitz site, too.

Wolf is now set up for posting access, so hopefully we can get the male perspective interspersed with my ramblings soon…

Publicity?!

So I decided to stat the blog, and now I need to know how to get it “out there” so that anyone who might want to read it can find it.  I posted to the message group on The Mom Pack, where I can always count on getting great business advice from other Work at Home Moms.

One suggestion I got was to list the site on Delightful Blogs.  It seems they charge a $9 one-time fee to list your blog on their site.  I haven’t determined yet whether that will really do anything that would make that worthwhile…  But they won’t review/list you until the bog has been up for three months, so I guessI have some time to decide.

Another friend recommended that I check out a site called Technorati, and “claim my blog” there.  They told me to post a link so that their spiders can verify that I am the owner of this blog!  I won’t really know what else is going on there until that process is complete.

Of course you can always go with paid services that do various kinds of promotion or distribution, but I’m really not ready to jump into that sort of thing.  I don’t harbor any illusions that I’m writing Pulitzer-worthy journalistic pieces here…  ;)
I am still searching out the answers to my other questions - like, How big should an image be in order to be iPod friendly?

Life’s a Beach

It turns out that there is a “big dog show this weekend” in Orange County, so all the RV parks near my sister’s house were booked solid.  One of the disadvantages of not having firm travel plan ahead of time, of course.

While searching for an alternative, we were surprised to find out that we could park right on the beach at Dockweiler, for less than the campsites we had been looking at inland!  And Grandma is delighted that we’ll be closer to her, and she can spend more time with the kids.

Okay, so there’s one little downside…  LAX.  Yep, those bad boys fly right out over the ocean (and us) on their way out.

We’re happily parked here for a few days, though, to catch our breath and “catch some rays.”  The kids love playing on the beach - Nick would spend all day out there if we’d let him, and it’s Jewel’s first time.

Dockweiler Wildlife

It’s always fun when someone walking by stops to talk to us about our business.  I guess those magnets on the car really do work!  ;)

“What car magnets,” I can already hear you asking…  Well, we have several things going.  The first is two sets of large magnets (many thanks to Michelle at http://mrcandywrapper.com/) that say:

Want to Earn Money Money?  866.210.5586

Save 80% on Dental!  888.832.3508

Then we have a bunch of business card magnets in both varieties, so people can “swipe” one to take home.  Those also list the websites on them, of course.

Today looks to be another beautiful day in paradise, perfect for our BBQ lunch and family party for J’s second birthday.  I guess it’s time to turn off the computer (gasp) and go pick up the “Blue’s Clues” cake…
